Two
excellent programs are scheduled for Tuesday, June 3rd at Garvan
Woodland Gardens. Both are in the Magnolia Room and are free to
the public. All persons interested in gardening are invited.
The first is at 9:00 a.m. will be presented by
Larry Averill entitled "Coleus: The Victorian Favorite Returns in
Elegant Splendor." Larry has presented programs on Coleus to many
garden clubs and at the 2007 International Master Gardener Conference,
The program will review types of Coleus, propagation methods, and
maintenance requirements. A large number of Coleus varieties will be on
display. All attendees will get cuttings for propagation purposes. A
review and tour of the Garden’s Coleus varieties will follow the
program. The program and tour will end by 11:30.
The second is at 1:00 p.m. will be presented by
Linda Lanier. She will talk about "Hydrangea, Types, Care and Pruning."
Linda Lanier was co founder of the Mid South Hydrangea Society in
Memphis, Tennessee. She quickly became enamored with Hydrangeas and has
spent a great deal of time studying and collecting the many varieties.
She personally has a significant collection in her own yard. She has
spoken frequently on the topic including programs at the 2006 Arkansas
Flower and Garden Show, in Little Rock, and most recently at the 2008
Arkansas Master Gardener Advanced Training course on "Hydrangeas and
Hosta," in Jonesboro. Her programs are informational, entertaining and
chocked full of beautiful pictures of many kinds of Hydrangeas. A tour
of the Garden’s Hydrangea collection will follow the program.

HORTICULTURE FIELD DAY at the
Southwest Research And Extension Center in Hope, Arkansas.
The first page is directions and date--June
5 from 3:00 - 8 pm. The second page is the schedule of
events. So look at both attachments. Do note
they want folks to RSVP by May 25.
This is a free event and they are serving dinner. In addition
to the tours and meal, there will be a plant clinic where you
can bring plant samples and have them analyzed. Many of you
have attended similar events in Clarksville, but this is an
opportunity to see what is happening in the southern part of our
state. |
